Bathroom Safety Upgrades That Stay Put
A grab bar only helps if it holds. The difference between a bar that gives steady support and one that pulls out of the wall comes down to what it is fastened to: framing, blocking, or a masonry surface — never the drywall alone. Redhawk Handyman Services installs customer-supplied grab bars throughout the Oklahoma City metro with that in mind, and we will tell you when a wall is not suitable instead of installing something that will not hold.
We work with homeowners, older adults, adult children arranging work for a parent, and caregivers managing a property. If you are searching for grab bar installation in OKC, the process is simple: send photos of the bathroom walls and the bar you have in mind, and you will receive a flat-rate quote before anything is scheduled.
Grab Bar Locations We Install
Most bathrooms need one or two bars placed where the transition actually happens — stepping into the shower, lowering into the tub, or standing up from the toilet.
Shower Grab Bar Installation
Bars installed inside shower enclosures and beside shower doors, anchored into framing behind the surround wherever it exists. Placement is confirmed with you before drilling.

Before a bar is installed, we check what is behind the finished surface. Manufacturer instructions specify which substrates and fasteners are acceptable, and we follow them. Where the wall cannot support the bar in the location you want, the options are usually a different spot, a different bar, or a conversation about what would need to change.
Drywall with wood studs
The strongest case — bars are fastened directly into framing wherever the layout allows.
Tile over a stud wall
Framing is located before drilling so fasteners land in structure behind the tile, not just the tile itself.
Drywall without framing in reach
We discuss relocating the bar to a stud location. We do not use drywall-only anchors to carry body weight.
Masonry, concrete, and brick
Sleeve or wedge anchors per the manufacturer’s specification for that surface.
Fiberglass and acrylic surrounds
Workable where the surround has solid backing behind it. Where it does not, another location may be necessary.
Loose or damaged walls
Water damage or failing substrate has to be addressed before a bar can safely go on that wall.
Adding blocking or opening a wall to create a mounting point is a separate project and outside Redhawk’s scope. When that is what the bathroom needs, we will explain it plainly so you can plan the right next step.
Customer-Supplied Grab Bars and Hardware
Grab bars are customer-supplied, which lets you choose the finish, length, and style that matches the bathroom. Send the product link or model number with your request. We review the kit beforehand to confirm the included fasteners suit your wall, and we will flag it when a bar is designed only for a specific substrate.
Bars sold with mounting hardware for wood studs will not work on a block wall, and masonry anchors are not appropriate for a fiberglass surround. Checking that before the appointment avoids a second visit.
Several Bars in One Visit
A single appointment can usually cover the whole bathroom — shower, tub, and toilet area. Send photos of each location and note how many bars you have so the quote covers all of them at once.
Photo-Based Quotes
A wide photo of the wall and a close-up of the surface are usually enough to quote accurately. Include the product link and your ZIP code, and we will reply with a flat-rate quote.

Frequently Asked Questions — Grab Bar Installation
Where can grab bars be installed in a bathroom?
Showers, bathtubs, and the wall beside the toilet are the most common locations. The exact spot depends on where framing or blocking sits behind the wall, so we confirm placement with you before drilling.
Can you install a grab bar on tile?
Often, yes. We locate the framing behind the tile before drilling and use the fasteners the bar manufacturer specifies. If the tile has no support behind it in a workable location, we will say so rather than install a bar that cannot hold.
What if there are no studs where the grab bar needs to go?
We will look at moving the bar to a location that has framing, or discuss whether the manufacturer rates a fastener for that wall type. We do not install grab bars with drywall-only anchors, and adding blocking requires opening the wall, which is outside our scope.
Do you supply the grab bars?
No — bars and hardware are customer-supplied. Send the product link or model number with your request so we can confirm the included fasteners match your wall before the appointment.
Can you remove an old grab bar and install a new one?
Yes. Removal and replacement in the same location is a common request. If the old fasteners left damaged or weakened holes, we may need to reposition slightly or use different fasteners.
Do you install suction-cup grab bars?
No. Suction-cup and tension-mounted bars are not installed as grab bars. They are designed for balance assistance and are not anchored into the structure.
How many grab bars can you install in one visit?
Multiple bars in the same bathroom are usually handled in one appointment — for example a shower bar, a tub bar, and a toilet-area bar. Send photos of each location so the quote covers all of them.
How is grab bar installation priced?
Every project is quoted manually after reviewing your photos and product details. The wall type, the number of bars, and the condition of the area all affect the work, so there is no published price list.
Do you guarantee that every surface can hold a grab bar?
No. Installation depends on suitable wall structure, the hardware and fasteners the manufacturer specifies, and site conditions. Not every surface is suitable, and we will decline an installation that cannot be anchored safely.
