Overhead Garage Storage Installation in Oklahoma City
Fixed overhead racks and cable-lowered storage systems, installed after the ceiling and the garage door clearances are actually checked. Brand-neutral: we quote the approach that fits your garage, then the product that fits the approach.
Overhead projects are quoted from photos first, then confirmed on site before ordering or scheduling.

The Empty Space Above the Car Is the Hard Part
Most Oklahoma City garages have plenty of volume and no usable floor. The ceiling looks like the obvious answer, and it usually is, but the install is where these projects succeed or fail. Framing spacing, an HVAC soffit, a step in the ceiling, the door track, and the opener rail all sit in the same few feet of space, and the platform has to work around all of them.
That is why we quote overhead storage from photos rather than a price list. Two garages on the same street with the same ceiling height can need different layouts, and one of them may be a better fit for a lowering system while the other is a straightforward fixed rack.
Fixed Overhead Racks vs. Lowering Storage Systems
Both approaches use the same empty space near the ceiling, and both depend on sound ceiling framing. The difference is how the items get up there and how they come back down, and that difference is what usually decides which one fits a particular garage and a particular household.
Fixed overhead rack
A platform or rack that stays up. Sturdy, simple, and often the lower-cost choice when the items are seasonal and the ceiling is easy to work with. Loading happens from a ladder, so the height and the weight of the items matter every time.
Lowering storage system
A platform suspended on cables that lowers toward the floor and raises back to the ceiling. Loading and unloading happen at a workable height, and nothing needs to be lifted overhead. These systems need more vertical room and a clear drop path.
| Fixed rack | Lowering system | |
|---|---|---|
| How you load it | Lift items overhead from a ladder or step stool and set them on the rack. | The platform lowers to a comfortable height, you load it, then raise it back up. |
| Access to the items | Reaching overhead each time you need something. | Retrieval happens at standing height on the way down. |
| Ceiling requirements | Mounts to ceiling framing or joists; hardware and layout depend on the structure. | Mounts to ceiling framing or joists and needs room for the platform plus its drop path. |
| Overhead clearance | Needs clear space above the rack and enough height to load it safely. | Needs clear space above the platform and an unobstructed path as it lowers. |
| Garage door and opener | Placement must stay clear of the door track, opener rail, and the door travel path. | Same clearances apply, plus the lowering footprint when the platform is down. |
| Typical fit | Seasonal items stored once or twice a year, and garages with usable wall height. | Items used more often, and households that would rather not climb to reach them. |
How We Decide What Goes Where
Start with the ceiling, not the product
Platform size and mounting layout follow where the framing actually is. Garage ceilings often have a soffit, a step, or an open web truss that changes what can hang where.
Respect the door travel
The overhead door needs its full path. Panels, hinges, the track, and the opener rail all constrain placement, and that usually decides whether a platform fits at all.
Match the system to the use
Seasonal bins loaded twice a year and everyday items pulled down weekly are different projects. The comparison above is the short version of how we choose between them.
Decide who supplies the product
Redhawk can supply and install an approved system as one local package, or install a product you already own after assessing it. Both are quoted, neither is ordered sight unseen.
Ceiling, Framing & Clearance Assessment
Before any bracket goes up, we want to know what the ceiling is made of and where its structure is. Drywall tells you almost nothing, so we look for visible framing at the exposed sections, check the spacing, and confirm the mounting points against the layout the system needs. Where a ceiling is finished and framing is not visible, we locate it on site.
The same visit covers clearance. The garage door needs its full travel arc, the opener rail needs its line, and a lowering platform needs its drop path as well as its stored position. Anything that cannot be worked around gets said plainly, and the quote changes or the project stops before you buy.
Installation height
Redhawk installs overhead storage at heights we can access and work at safely with the right equipment. Tall-ceiling, RV-height, and unusually configured garages are quote-only. A product’s published ceiling range does not extend our installation range — those are two different limits, and we quote the job only when both line up.
From Photos to Demonstration
Photos first
Send a wide garage shot, the ceiling where storage would go, any visible framing, and the door track with the opener. Most placement questions are answered from those four photos.
Written quote
You get an installed quote describing the product or the installation-only scope, the standard install, and anything site-specific that changes the price.
Site approval
Framing and clearances are confirmed before the product is ordered or the appointment is scheduled. If the ceiling will not carry the system as planned, we say so before you spend anything.
Installation day
Layout is marked, framing located, mounting hardware installed, and the platform or rack set and leveled. Ceiling work is done with the proper access equipment, not from a stepladder.
Demonstration
We operate the system with you before leaving, confirm it moves freely through its full travel, and show how to check the cables and fasteners over time on a lowering system.
What We Install
- Ceiling and framing assessment from photos, then on site before drilling
- Placement planning around the door track, opener, and door travel
- Installation of fixed overhead racks or cable-lowered storage systems
- Anchoring into framing with the hardware the manufacturer specifies
- Leveling the platform and confirming the raise-and-lower operation
- A walkthrough demonstration before we leave
What We Do Not Offer
- Structural repair, sistering, or new framing where framing is inadequate
- Electrical work of any kind — these systems are drill-operated with no wiring
- Garage door, opener, or spring service
- Wall removal, insulation, or drywall finishing
- Ceiling heights above the confirmed installation range (quoted individually, if accepted at all)
- Moving, hauling, or disposal of stored contents
- Load ratings for a customer-provided product we did not supply
Overhead storage is a structural-adjacent installation: everything depends on framing that is already sound, the manufacturer's specified hardware, and the conditions at your garage. Redhawk will decline a layout that cannot be anchored safely.
Start a Garage Storage Quote
A few details keep the quote accurate. Nothing you enter here approves the job — site conditions are reviewed before anything is ordered or scheduled.
Photos to have ready for the quote form
• Wide shot of the garage from the doorway
• The ceiling area where storage would go
• Visible ceiling framing or trusses
• The garage door track and opener rail
• Any wall space you want to use
Your answers are kept while you move between the garage pages. Redhawk reviews the photos and confirms ceiling, framing, and clearance before scheduling. You are not asked to certify that your garage structure is suitable.
Supplying the Product
Redhawk can supply and install an approved overhead storage system as a single local package, which is how the CeilingSAM lowering systems are handled. If you already own a rack or shelving unit, that becomes an installation-only quote. We do not sell or install brands we have not been approved to supply, and no product is offered for checkout on its own.

Frequently Asked Questions — Overhead Garage Storage OKC
Should I choose a fixed overhead rack or a lowering system?
It depends on how the space will be used. A fixed rack costs less and is fine for seasonal items, but everything is loaded from a ladder. A lowering system brings the platform down to a workable height, so nothing is lifted overhead — at the cost of more vertical clearance and a higher installed price.
How much ceiling height does overhead storage need?
It depends on the system and the item heights. A fixed rack needs enough room above it to load safely; a lowering system needs its platform plus the full drop path. We confirm the usable measurement at your actual install location rather than quoting from a rule of thumb.
Can you install overhead storage in a garage with a high ceiling?
Tall-ceiling and RV-height garages are quote-only and reviewed case by case. The product may be rated for a taller ceiling, but that does not automatically extend what Redhawk will install — access equipment, framing, and safe working height all have to line up first.
Will the storage interfere with my garage door or opener?
It can, which is why the door track, opener rail, and full door travel are part of the photos we ask for. Placement is planned around them. We do not relocate or adjust the door, track, or opener.
Do you install a system I bought myself?
Yes, as an installation-only quote after we assess the product and the ceiling. Send the product link or model number with your photos. We do not take on the manufacturer’s warranty or certify a product we did not supply.
Do you reinforce or repair ceiling framing?
No. We mount to framing that is already sound. If framing is missing, damaged, or spaced where it cannot support the layout, we explain what a carpenter or framer would need to do first.
Which areas do you install overhead storage in?
Oklahoma City, Norman, Edmond, Moore, Yukon, Mustang, Midwest City, Del City, Bethany, Choctaw, Tuttle, and surrounding OKC metro communities.
